If you’re like me and my family, you’re starting to itch for another Boise summer. It seems like the winter will never end, but I know summer is coming soon. If you’re new to Boise Idaho I can assure you summer here is the best. It’s going to sneak up on us fast and I want to make sure you all have an idea of things to do and see. Once the kids are out of school (I know it seems like an eternity away) you’re going to last about 6 days before you need to start entertaining them.

Luckily, Meridian Dairy Days starts mid June and has something for everyone. It celebrates our Idaho dairy heritage but includes things like a fun run, parade, pancake feed and carnival. It’s definitely something you’ll want to check out with or without kids. You can find out more at dairydays.org After you’ve celebrated in Meridian in June you can enjoy Eagle Fun days in July.  This is a fun festival for all ages which includes getting cooled off (or blasted) by the fire truck’s hose, and then if you’re really brave, eating Rocky Mountain oysters prepared by the local firemen. Visit eaglechamber.com for exact dates and locations.

Now if you’re looking for more of an adult only summer activity you’ve got to check out the St. Inazio festival in the Basque district downtown. Boise is extremely proud of it’s Basque history and this festival in late July gives us an opportunity to show that. With live music, dancing and traditional Basque food and drink it’s really something you should check out. See basquecenter.com for more information.

Now what would summer be without a fair and a rodeo? If you’ve just moved to Idaho I’m going to mandate you go to both. Ya maybe they’re a little “Idaho cliche” but that’s what makes them so much fun! With great people watching and awesome super-unhealthy food (my wife requires a deep fried snickers bar once a year) the Western Idaho fair is a must this August. There are always some great concerts and kids love the 4H animals. Check out idahofair.com for all the details.

The Caldwell Night rodeo is an event you don’t want to miss. It’s Idaho through and through. The events are really pretty impressive, the kids love the circus clowns and your wife will definitely want to go to see the cowboys. It’s a win win. It runs August 13-17 and more information can be found at caldwellnightrodeo.com.

Here’s a starting list of a few things to do. Mark them in your calendars and stay posted for more good ideas. By the time summer comes I’ll have your calendar full of events, camping spots and good eats to keep you busy through the most beautiful time Boise has to offer.
