The Snake River Stampede rodeo has been around since the early 1900’s. In the beginning it was more of a small “bucking horse competition” and it’s become a large professional event.

Back in my day, well, as of 20+ years ago this event was held in an open air stadium across from Lakeview Park in Nampa. It was always entertaining to watch Leon Coffee (the rodeo clown) and all of his antics. You almost always had to fan yourself with the program to keep from melting into the wood bleachers, we were constantly covered in ketchup and mustard from our paper wrapped hamburgers. Great memories for a kid.

Now it is held in the air conditioned Idaho Center located right off the Garrity exit. You will still find rodeo clowns entertaining the youngsters, hamburgers, soft drinks, and plenty of rowdy cheering and whistling. If you have just moved to Idaho, this event will help you get an idea of where many of our roots have originated. It’s a great time for the family and a staple of our culture here in Idaho. So grab your hat and boots and we’ll see you there!
